You can defragment, delete or remove old programs, close out applications that are not being used, format the entire computer and re-install everything, or buy another computer for yourself...

Norton should always work to protect your computer. If not, troubleshoot it and resolve it before you start downloading all sorts of programs or checking bank accounts online.

You could also ask a tech savvy friend to come over and point out the things that you don't need anymore....good luck.

* Defragment your hard disk(s).

* Clear your Internet Explorer cache.

* Consider using a lower resolution, or a lower color depth for your monitor.

* Consider using a plain color instead of a picture for your desktop - the picture takes up memory that could be used for other things. (This is also extra important if you connect to your machine via Remote Desktop.)

You probably have a bunch of unnecessary files (like from installing %26amp; uninstalling, etc) - go to this site and learn about %26amp; use this free trial - it'll get all the garbage cleaned up

Are you regularly degragmenting your PC? - use this link to get a free FAST defragger - I've used it for about 5 years - it's excellent!

There's a lot of other things you can do - I'm sure others will give you great tips - I think these 2 will give you a good solid start at cleaning up! Good luck!

Whatever you do DO NOT start deleting things you think you might not need - always Google it first to see what it's connected to! DO NOT start deleting programs you haven't used - your system may use it!

Ok first off, download and run Spybot S%26amp;D, Lavasofts adaware and any other favourite "spyware removers". Most people's computers are CRAWLING with spyware which can seriously drag a computer down.

Defrag the drive if not done already. If you have less than about 15% space on the drive, try and see if there are some old files (movies etc) which can be dumped

Yep, definately increase the memory. If using XP, although 128 Mb will make it work (in theory), the performance is dire in the extreme. 256 and it crawls along a bit better. for what it will cost, try and get it upto around 1 Gig if you can!

Do those things and the chances are, the computer will move a GOOD deal faster than it has for a very long time.

Remove spyware and adware. Toolbars are a major problem too. Downloading things like cursors and such usually contain adware or spyware, make sure to do a thorough scan for adware, spyware, and virus' with a reputable software. Sometimes having too many fonts will slow your computer down significantly. If you've been downloading fonts that could explain alot. You could also try to defrag the hard drive. If you have a lot of animated gif images, song or video files, you might try making a CD backup and deleting them as well. RAM is important as well, depending on the operating system you are running, and the amount of programs running in the background you could really be eating up the ram. Getting some more ram may help. If you're a fairly tech savvy individual you might want to try disabling some items on startup. Do a google search for MSCONFIG if your running Windows. If you know what your doing you could disable programs at startup. Do Not do this if you don't know what you're doing. As a last resort you could backup any inportant information on disk, then try system restore, or re format then reinstall the operating system. Just make sure you don't attempt anything that you are unsure how to do.
